The Mauifest Drive-In is tied to a large, roaming local arts festival named Mauifest. It has annual events on the Island of Maui. The Drive-In, however, is a permanent fixture, though it only shows one film every month, always on a Saturday night. The Tiger Drive-In was founded in 1955, closed, but reopened in 2004. They are open weekends from Friday to Sunday, and provide a much wider experience than most drive ins. The 63-year-old Silver Moon Drive In Theatre has a rich history. It survived until 1996, when, like many drive-ins, it was almost shut down. Instead, Harold Spears, a drive-in enthusiast, saved the theater by starting Sun South Theaters, the same company that now owns the Joy Lan Drive In. The theater has a two-sided screen, showing two double-features per night. That have a full concession stand that serves alcohol. It also serves as a market during the day.

Curiously, the theater doesn’t have its own name, but is simply tied to the giant swap shop in Fort Lauderdale. Southington Drive-In

The Southington Drive-In is something unique: it is a community drive-in. After having closed in 2002, the citizens of Southington decided that losing their drive-in would be a loss to their community. As a result, the town purchased the drive-in, and it has been run by the “Southington Drive-In Committee” ever since. Because it is a community, non-profit drive-in, it has lower prices than many other drive ins. However, it does not show first-run movies, but rather classics like “Jaws” every Saturday night, and does not show “R”-rated movies. It also shows one feature, not a double feature.

Lakeport Auto Movies

Lakeport Auto Movies is a seasonal movie theater that shows a double feature every night during midsummer and on weekends during the rest of the season. They are an offshoot of the local Lakeport Cinema 5, and indoor theater. Red’s Crescent Drive-In

Red’s Crescent Drive in provides a single screen offering double features from Wednesday to Sunday nights. The theater encourages children to play near the front of the screen and for others to sit down in front, allowing for more interaction than is typical in a drive-in. The Rubidoux Drive-In Theatre dates back to 1948, and is the oldest functioning drive-in in California. It is also, unlike many drive-ins, an architectural gem, created in the art deco style. The Santa Barbara Drive in did something few drive ins have done – it reopened.
